Clausthaler Classic

Country - Germany

Percentage - 0.5%

Brewing company - Binding Brauerie AG

Brewed in accordance with the German Purity Laws but with a special cultivated yeast that does not produce as much alcohol.
When poured this is a gold amber beer with a head that dissipates rapidly but leaves good lacing as the beer is imbibed providing a strong aroma of hops. This is a pleasant tasting bear that is clean, light and refreshing with the hops delivering a bite of bitterness. This beer is a revelation that is an improvement on the other non/low alcoholic beers reviewed here. Clausthaler has achieved in the production of a fine and most importantly drinkable low alcoholic beer. This is an extra ordinary beer boasting "the leading non-alcoholic beer brand in Europe & most successful non/low alcoholic beer in the world" Now you can savour a cold beer without th affect.

Verdict - Exceptional (for a low/non alcoholic beer)

Lowenbrau Alkoholfrei

Country - Germany

Percentage - 0.5

Brewing company - Anheuser-Bush InBev

Maca consumed this one from the bottle as he was driving. A strong aroma of hop is present with some fruitiness. The beer has a strong taste of hops as though you have just popped one in your mouth and chewed it. On further investigation this is most probably the hops extract. There is no comparison to the Lowenbrau Original, even if it does improve over time. The beer is far to hoppy and cannot be considered to be a substitute for a good beer. Did i mention the hoppiness.

Verdict - Palatable

Erdinger Alkoholfrei

Country - Germany

Percentage - 0.4%

Brewing company - PrivatBraueri Seit

This is the number 1 alcohol free beer in Germany, brewed from the worlds largest wheat beer brewery. This beer has an aromatic hops and wheat aroma. A full bodied beer with a lingering hoppy aftertaste, this is not a good beer but you have to ask yourself, is it really a beer when it contains only 0.4% ABV? This is an improvement on Lowenbrau Alkoholfrei, as it has a more refined flavour and is less overpowering with the hops. Regardless only drink this when you absolutely must. You may want to consider this as a sports drink however, unlike Gatorade; Erdinger Alkoholfrei is served up with a frothy head and only comes in one colour - a golden hue. Erdinger claims that the beer helps athletes recover from workouts as it is isotonic and vitamin rich. This sports drink was recently distributed to athletes after completing the World Cup Biathlon held in Maine. "It's a very healthy product"

Verdict - OK
