Berwing Company - Illawarra Brewing Company

The Five Islands Illawarra Brewing Company was established in 2001 and is aptly named after the five islands off the coast of Wollongong. Only 50 meters from the beach the company is the first brewery in the history of Illawara, importing a 12 hecto-liter capacity brew house. The brewery produces a variety of beers including a Kolsch, Draught Ale, Wit, Porter, and a Seasonal Draught.
When poured this is a dark gold colour beer with a beige head. On tasting there is a medium malt presence and plenty of hops to counter the malt backbone. Good carbonation allows the flavours to travel around the mouth. This is an enjoyable beer that acquired a Silver Medal at the Australian International Beer Awards.

These reviews are shaped by our personal tastes and so you should know that both Maca and myself don't find Belgium styled beer particularly appetising and Maca is not a fan of dark beers. Also we both think ginger beers are fucked.

To see some our funnier reviews have a look at anything that scored less than good, we usually go to town on these beers.

It is important to look close at the beers you are buying. Many beers that you think are imported may be brewed under license and these beers are nowhere near as good as there imported brothers, so always look for the 'Imported' logo. When shopping it's well worth the small amount extra you'll pay.

You may of heard someone say 'why pour a beer? Its already in a glass' well those people need to understand is that to get full flavour out of your beer, aroma is key and the only way to truly appreciate the aroma is to pour it. So everyone pour it if you can and tell any wanker that says that to 'fuck off'.

If you've had look at this blog and are thinking... gee it would be nice to try some of these beers that i've seen here but i really can't afford it, well we think you need to get your priorities in order, however here's a top tip from Maca and myself. We brew our everyday drink at a local Brew By You, a chain of microbreweries that allow you to use their equipment and their recipes to brew excellent quality beer for only half the regular price. So the money we save we put into buying new untried beers. This is a great option for someone who wants to make there wallet a bit heavier, get involved in the brewing process or reduce your intake of preservatives This is good for your health but it also reduces the effects of a hangover.
