Brewing company - Morland Brewing
The old speckled hen was first brewed in 1979 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the MG car company, to which an old MG car was used around the factory splattered in paint, earnt the nickname 'Owld Speckled Un.'
When poured this is a rich amber coloured beer with a slight red tinge and a decent white head. An aroma of caramel is present and the initial taste is sweet but is quickly replaced by a rich smooth taste of caramel malt with a slightly nutty under tone. This is a classic text book example of a nut brown ale, with a biscuity caramel aftertaste and dry finish. The perfect beer to compliment an Australian barbeque with any meat, particularly spicy sausages.
